Core Administrative Services

Administrative Services:

Office of Research Integrity (ORI)

 

Oversees research standards and ethical protection of the rights and welfare of human subjects throughout the MedStar system. Responsibilities include:

  • Administrator of MedStar’s unified Institutional Review Boards (IRBs)
  • Federal, state, & local regulatory compliance
  • Extramural agency affairs & collaborations
  • Administers MedStar PEER – an ethics education program required for all human research personnel.

Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC)

 



Responsible for the initial and continuing review of all animal-related research protocols in the MedStar system. Adheres to the guidelines of the Association for Accreditation and Assessment of Laboratory Animal Care International.

Office of Contracts & Grants management (OCGM)

 



Serves as MedStar’s official representative to all commercial and Federal research sponsors. Responsibilities include:

  • Negotiate & execute research contracts, grants, & awards
  • Assist with grant, proposal, & program budget development
  • Sponsor billing & cost reporting
  • Research related patient care charge capture
  • Local, state & federal regulatory compliance
  • Technology transfer
  • Identification of research funding opportunities.

 

Office of Financial Management (OFM)

 



Manages the fiscal and accounting functions of MedStar Health Research Institute. Responsible for the Institute’s annual capital & operating budgets, financial operations (e.g., accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll), tax & audit functions, and financial reporting. Once OCGM
executes a research contract or grant, OFM provides program level accounting & reporting, audit support, financial compliance, risk mitigation guidance, and post–award administration.

Human Resources (HR)

 



Directs MedStar’s research-related personnel practices. The Institute employs hundreds of research professionals throughout the MedStar system. HR works strategically with hospital administrators, department managers, and principal investigators to hire, retain, and develop the finest research workforce.

Office of Information Technology (OIT)

 



Provides IT operational support and strategic technology planning for the Institute. Works collaboratively with IT teams in MedStar’s seven hospitals to provide the IT infrastructure required to support each medical research program. OIT also supports Web-based development and implementation.
